Voice Consent Policy
Effective date: 14 October 2026 · Version: 1.0
A voice is part of a person's identity. This policy explains who can be cloned on Vaux, how consent works, and how anyone can ask us to remove a clone of their voice.
1. Who you may clone
| Allowed | Not allowed |
|---|---|
| Your own voice | Anyone under 18 |
| A living adult who has given you explicit written consent for the specific uses you plan | A deceased person, even with family permission, unless you hold the legal rights and we have approved it in writing |
| A voice actor under a written contract that covers AI voice cloning | Public figures, celebrities, politicians and officials |
| Anyone recorded without their knowledge, such as from calls, videos or social media |
2. What valid consent looks like
Consent from another person must be:
- written: signed or clearly agreed in a message or document, with their name and date;
- specific: it says their voice will be cloned with an AI tool and how you will use it (for example "for my podcast character", "for our company's support line");
- informed: they understand the clone can say things they never said;
- freely given and revocable: they can withdraw it at any time.
Keep a copy. We may ask you for it at any time, and must be able to receive it within 7 days.
3. Verification
When you create a clone we may ask for:
- a consent declaration in the app confirming the above;
- a spoken consent statement read by the voice owner, which we compare to the sample to check they match;
- identity checks for higher-risk use or high volumes.
We may refuse, pause or delete a clone if we cannot verify consent.
4. Using clones
- Clones are private to the account that created them.
- Use a clone only for the purposes the voice owner agreed to.
- Do not use a clone to make the voice owner appear to say things they would reasonably object to, or to deceive people about them.
5. Withdrawing consent and removal requests
If you created the clone: delete it in Voices at any time. We delete the clone and its training samples from our systems and ask our voice provider to do the same.
If someone cloned your voice: email [email protected] with your name, a short sample of your voice or a link showing it is yours, and any details of where you heard the clone. We will investigate, normally act within 72 hours, remove clones made without valid consent, and take action against the account involved.
6. Developers
If your product lets users create clones through our API, you must collect and store consent under this policy and pass verification steps to us when asked. You are responsible for your users' compliance.
